A community farm is a shared productive green space that is open to the community, produces food specifically for the community members and is managed by skilled staff hired from within the community to assure sustainable engagement and abundant yields using techniques that cause no harm to the environment. Community farms re-imagine the community garden model through a lens of cultural competency to implement a system that works and that will last.
Glory Gardens works with residents through a collaborative design process to transform one or multiple vacant lots into multifunctional high yield farms. Residents raise funds (through sale of produce or value added product) to fund contracting Glory Gardens for management and maintenance. Fees associated with this contract can be discounted by participating in the shared harvest program.
Glory Gardens works with a group of organized residents to transform one or more vacant lots into a multifunctional high yield farm which is fiscally sponsored by an organization that has partnered with glory gardens. Up to 5 residents are selected to complete the Glory Gardens Agriscaping courses and the National Green Infrastructure Certification Program which will equip them to be hired to manage the farm, and start their own green sector based entrepreneurial ventures.
Glory Gardens works with residents to create a decentralized farm composed of gardens installed at homes within 8 blocks of each other. Residents have the option to complete the Glory Gardens Agriscaping course and each resident can choose to manage/maintain their edible landscape or contract Glory Gardens. All residents agree to participate in the shared harvest program and produce harvested from their decentralized community farm will be distributed throughout the community by Glory Gardens.
